The Essence of Presence

EXPERIMENTAL VR INSTALLATION

Until now, the Volumetric Video Capture technique was hardly available. The technology is far too expensive for artistic experimentation and there are only a few studios worldwide. With the arrival of the 4DR studio in Eindhoven, that will change and we have been given the opportunity to investigate and research the added value of people and animals in VR. The temporary project of Chronosphere, part of the Effenaar Smart Venue, aims to make this technology accessible to the cultural sector. It represents a unique, but only temporary opportunity to produce a non-commercial but essential VR experience that can have far-reaching implications for both the arts and culture sector, as well as personally for the careers of the creators.

This enabled us to create the Essence of Presence. This project is an experiment in which we let you as the visitor be guided by characters in a virtual journey. Although there is a clear storyline in the virtual journey, visitors are free to decide for themselves how long that journey takes or how that journey is made. The encounters with the digital persons will influence the experience and so it becomes a personal journey that creates a special relationship with the virtual characters.
